Individually cut out, carved, sanded and oiled by hand—one at a time!

When we first started to homestead, we looked forward to outbuildings full of chickens, ducks, goats, bees and puppies. For the time being, though--with a busy show schedule, a new workshop to build, plus grandchildren to play with--we must settle for these wooden friends.
All of our Critters have a contrasting-wood eye on one side only—some folks can’t bear to cut with that eye staring up at them!

When Pigs Fly...

What can we say? Everyone has a special meaning for this saying...
We can add a hanging hole on the back of your pig so it hangs at this "flying into the clouds" angle.

Tom’s daughter asked for a pig board like her husband had made in junior high school shop class. She secretly traced it for me, then I added the very time-consuming, carved, curly tail, eye and floppy ear.

Thus Piggy became Meb’s Kitchenwares’ First Board. Customers have told me, “Every Kitchen needs a Pig for Luck”, so we now make the pigs in three sizes.

NOTE: For the Most Daring we offer an EXTRA LARGE PIG! He is 20.5" by 12". Because of the size, this is a custom order piece.

Violin

At 5 years old in the early 1950's, I was among the first Suzuki-trained violinists in the US. My teacher trained under Suzuki in Japan, then searched locally (Cape Cod) for students. She and my mom became friends and traded lessons with their daughters.

Eventually, the two mothers developed a music program incorporating over 300 students annually in their stringed music lessons.

Piano

Piano Shown in Black Walnut with Curly Maple Keys --- knife sold separately ---

This grand piano cheese board works best in Black Walnut (or Cherry as a custom order). The keys can only be made from the tightest, most uniform Curly Maple.

Tom painstakingly "sets" the keyboard into the piano.

Especially harmonious as pictured: paired with a laminated knife, sold separately.

The shell is a fun way to show off beautiful wood grain, so here, too, we make two sizes. Meb carves the head, tail and flippers to add dimension. And the stained edge really pops out the design.

Tom carves these boards—with the hearts flowing into each other (or, by special request side-by-side, or entangled, or with an imaginary arm around the other). Meb carves the matching or contrasting knives. That’s why this makes a dandy wedding present—from one happy couple to another!
