Introductions

Here’s our story—who we were and who we are now, how we met, and where and how we live now.
In the middle of the last century, a boy and girl messed about in opposite corners of the New England woods: climbing trees, building forts and exploring the natural world.
Later, we worked at various careers: Tom Vaiciulis in Connecticut as an engineer and designer, Meb Boden in Boston's theater and music worlds. We each married, parented terrific kids, divorced our first spouses, lived abroad and started over.
We met on a drizzly Halloween night due to Meb’s lost keys. The following Halloween, we sailed north from Trinidad and discovered we were grand partners at sea.

The next sunny years featured these snapshots: A wedding in an ocean-side grove. Perpetual repairs on our home--a 35-year-old, all-teak sailboat. Total eclipse of the sun seen from an active volcanic island. International friendships and intrigue. Woodworking and stained glass in our island studio. For 3 years, I wrote a column for All At Sea, a Caribbean boating magazine, about the trials and wonders of living aboard a small boat. A compilation is in the works. However, we’d made an enemy and, while we visited up North, arson finished off our workshop.
Not to be deterred, we went back to our roots and bought a 21-acre chunk of Connecticut forest 2 miles from a paved road.
We cleared land, built an elegant 156-square foot cabin, cut firewood and gardened.
Over the next two decades, we created Meb’s Kitchenwares in a nearby on-grid workshop, attended hundreds of craft shows, and each of us successfully battled cancer. A mile from the last power pole, we built a solar-run home from our own trees.

During the 2020 pandemic, with the help of Tom’s sons we built our dream workshop out of local materials, celebrating twenty-five years of partnership, hard work and creativity.
