Free Forest FunYES, it’s FREE! You’ll need to sign up via email though.
First come, First served for a minimum of two, maximum four adults. Each adult is welcome to bring one child. After you sign up, I’ll send you a map. I'll keep a waiting list if there is additional interest! Please respect our privacy --in other words, please don't just show up at other than scheduled times. We live way out here because we love the peace and quiet. We’re still experimenting, so please help us out with suggestions! Forest Fun (monthly, I hope) will vary with the season, our latest homestead projects and of course, the weather. Philosophy : We’d like folks to experience altering a bit of the forest. From making pathways to creating a secret meeting place amongst the boulders, each session will increase understanding of the forest, adding health to the environment and leave behind a beautiful place that you created and can revisit.
This is not “Leave No Trace”, though we do embrace many of their principles. We call our method “The Unfair Advantage”, which gives the favored chosen plants an extra advantage of light, nutrients and TLC. Afterwards we hope you view the forest, trees and woodland plants differently. As well, you’ll get a special tour of our off-the-grid homestead. We’re pleased with the lifestyle we’ve adopted. It’s not always easy, but we do love it! |
Accessibility: For the present, these activities are meant for agile, able-bodied folks. In the near future, we hope to add wooden walkways and a UTV for our friends with canes or in chairs.
Masks Wearers & Non-Wearers Are Welcomed.
Pathways: Twenty years ago, we created a bunch of pathways around our 21 acres. Now they are all overgrown, mostly by twisty mountain laurel.
Later, after a small stroke, I found that creating a route amidst nature’s chaos helped unscramble my brain and bring peace. This is my favorite life activity, because the results are so clear and satisfying, almost meditative. Find yourself a special treasure to take home.
Participants must be agile—this is very uneven ground—though strength isn’t necessary.
You'll need to sign an insurance waiver before heading out for fun!
We’ll supply loppers, nippers and woods gloves.
Bring a lunch and drinks.
Bring your own eye protection and bug repellent or use ours.
A small backpack might be nice...
Wear long sleeves and pants so you can crawl around in the dirt!
Hiking boots with ankle support are best, but old sneakers can work if you are careful.
TICKS! I will include instructions about how to dress for ticks along with your maps.
You WILL get dirty! Bring clothes to change into before you go back into the outside world.
